Cleary murder suspect ‘complained of headache
AN inquest into the death of a murder suspect has heard the man had 34 injuries to his body caused by blunt force trauma – but none of them contributed to his death.
A doctor was called to a garda station after Dwayne Foster complained of a headache while in custody. Mr Foster (24) was found unresponsive in Coolock garda station on March 7, 2006, where he was being held over the fatal shooting of mother-of-one Donna Cleary.
Yesterday, Sergeant Michael Gormley of Coolock garda station told Dublin City Coroner’s Court that on the day in question Mr Foster complained of a headache. Sgt Gormley said he made numerous attempts to contact doctors until Dr Peadar Kirk arrived.
“He (Mr Foster) told the doctor he had grommets fitted in his ears,” said Sgt Gormley.
Sgt Gormley said Mr Foster explained why he had marks on his neck and said he had difficulty swallowing and he got methadone from his doctor.
He said he had received radiotherapy for throat cancer. Dr Kirk said he was to be given Difene and methadone.
A post-mortem found Mr Foster (24) of Woodbank Avenue, Finglas, Dublin, died from methadone intoxication.
Deputy state pathologist Dr Michael Curtis found 34 injuries on Mr Foster’s body caused by blunt force trauma, which did not cause or contribute to his death. The inquest continues.
